Audition for the NCCGB

We meet twice a year for week-long residential choir courses, one during the Easter holidays and one during the summer holidays. We also run workshops in schools, and choir tours abroad.

Membership of NCCGB is by audition only. Auditions take place in the autumn.

We accept new choir members who would be at least 9 years old when they join their first Easter course. We expect choir members to attend every course, unless there is an unusual event, for example a family wedding.

New choir members must be available to attend the Easter course following their audition.

Applications to join us in 2025 are now open. Please see below for further details

Our auditions

For an audition, candidates will be asked to perform one song from memory, accompanied. The performance should take no more than 3 minutes. They will also do some aural tests including musical memory tests and singing chords and some sight singing. The audition will take around 20 minutes. See below for some of the sight reading examples.

New choir members must be available to attend the Easter course following audition.

Our 2025 courses will take place at Bromsgrove School on the following dates:

Easter – Sunday 13th April – Saturday 19th April

Course fees and Bursary Scheme

The NCCGB bursary scheme exists to help participants who find it difficult to meet the costs of our course fees. We have limited bursary funds, so are currently only able to offer partial bursaries. We award bursaries of between 5% and 25% of the course fees.)
